How high can he go?

They’re having an interesting discussion on Hydeist about how high Hyde can sing and what his range is (some say 4 octaves). zeli17 posted this helpful info:

You know of course that the octaves start at C, so the notes in one octave, depending on the key, of course, cycle CDEFGABC. C4 is middle C. If you go to the piano, it's most likely dead center. It's marked as one line below the staff. C5 is the third space on the staff (Musing inserts: that's one octave above middle C). Almost all female singers can sing this. C6 is the second line above the staff. Most people can't sing this. C7 is like, whistle tone. o-o;

In Hitomi no Jyuunin he sings an A5. That's really close to the end of the octave, as you can see.

Anemone = E5 This is also one of his higher notes.

Jesus Christ = D5

Season's Call = Bb4

Perfect Blue = C5

White Feathers = D5

Dive to Blue = Eb5 The third highest? xD;

Twinkle Twinkle = B4

If it gives you some idea, Christina Aguilera got the deal for the song Reflection because she could sing an Eb... same Eb that hyde sings in Dive to Blue.

Not to slam our beloved, but men in general have it easier--Christina probably doesn't get to count her lower register in her range, most female singers don't. I can sing along with him using both registers on everything but the note he punches on Neo Universe. There is a very funny clip floating about You Tube from a show where he breaks in Neo Universe and makes such a face at himself. AND MESMERIZED HITS 100 POSTS!

Not that I sound like him! Or particularly good. It is the resonance and timbre of Hyde's voice that I love. It seems amazing that with so little training (and being such a small person) he is able to get the sounds from his voice that he does--growls to delicate whispers. Think of Killing Me and My Dear from Awake, or simply the contrast between Roentgen and 666 and Faith.

Lovely.

Someone mentioned on Hydeist that lots of guys can hit really high notes using their falsetto voices, but not many can do it as well as Hyde. :-)

Didn't know female singers don't usually count their lower registers. That doesn't seem fair.

And not sure if I've seen that YouTube clip. Do you have the link?

I can sing in his range on everything, save hitomi no jyuunin and jiyuu e no shotai. I can only get those high notes on a very good day, and jiyuu is easier than hitomi.

It's interesting, because I have never seen him mess up either of those songs, however, he has problems with both Neo Universe and Finale, to the point where I've only ever seen him do it right a couple of times. I think it's not so much the highness, but the sharpness.

I didn't see that clip on youtube (there seems to be a shortage of Neo Universe period), upon searching (thinking it might have been mine), but seeing as I have about 90% of L'arc's tv appearances ever, I do remember that one. I think there was only one that was good.

I think it is like Musing said once of his occasionally being flat in songs--it has to do with his confidence. Also the interval in Neo Universe is difficult. I was singing along with Hitomi on the way home from work last night (to see if I was boasting) and you build up to the high notes. You can find them relative to what you have been singing.
